MORGANTON, N.C. — Burke County first responders returned home after being deployed to eastern North Carolina ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
According to the News-Herald, The swift water rescue team made up of Burke County EMS and Oak Hill Fire and Rescue returned home after being deployed to help with Hurricane Dorian relief efforts.
Lt. John Hood with Burke County EMS said the team first went to Elizabethtown and was later deployed to Bolivia in Brunswick County the following morning. While they’ve been used to help with natural disaster relief efforts before, this is the first time they’ve experienced the hurricane itself.
On the way to their command post, the team stopped at a Sam’s Club for supplies. While they were inside, someone left a note of support on their vehicle:
“Thank you for the work you do,” the note read. “I have prayed and ask God for His protection over you. Take Care.”
