DENISON, Texas — A fire department hired its first female firefighter in 141 years.

KXII reported that Hanna Lindemuth was welcomed into the Denison Fire Department as the first female firefighter in the town.

“Going to fire school basically was the icing on the cake. It was right up my alley,” Lindemuth said.

Lindemuth added that she realized she wanted to become a first responder when her father died, according to KXII.

“First responders were the ones who ultimately were able to give me my goodbye to him,” she said. “I decided I wanted to give back and give people the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones or at least save a life and help people.”
