Calif. firefighters’ equipment stolen while on call

The total value of the equipment is estimated to be $2,000; the department is accepting donations for replacement

TEMPLETON, Calif. — Firefighters are asking for the public’s help in finding firefighting equipment that was stolen while they were on an emergency call.

KEYT.com reported that Templeton Fire and Emergency Services crews were setting up to train on wildland firefighting techniques on a vacant land when they were called to a nearby vehicle crash. Crews left the equipment they were going to train with behind.

After firefighters cleared the emergency and returned to the training site, their equipment was gone. The total value of the equipment, which included two hose packs filled with 400 feet of wildland hose, nozzles and other firefighting equipment, is estimated to be $2,000.

“We are all extremely concerned and saddened that someone stole valuable and essential firefighting equipment from our department,” Chief Bill White said. “The individual(s) not only stole from the department, but the community of Templeton since our residents’ tax dollars pays for the equipment.”

The department is accepting donations for equipment replacement.
