CHICO, Calif. — A stranger donated a converted bus to a firefighter who lost her home in the Camp fire.

FOX40 reported that Paradise firefighter Lete Sanchez and her fiancé, Nicole Jaquez, received a refurbished bus from Denver, Colorado, resident Woody Faircloth after the wildfire destroyed their home.

“I think because I’ve been a firefighter for so long, I didn’t think it would happen to me,” Sanchez, a 10-year fire veteran, said.

Faircloth has been matching donors with wildfire survivors who need mobile homes after losing their own, and said the idea started on Thanksgiving when he bought an RV and took his daughter, 6-year-old Luna, on a road trip to give it to one of the victims.

“She got this wry smile, no front teeth. She said, ‘Oh dad, God and Santa Claus are going to be really proud of us,’” Faircloth said.

News of the donation began to spread and people began reaching out to Faircloth to try and donate their RVs and trailers.

“They said, ‘Look, we trust you to give it to a family that you think would be a good match,’” Faircloth said.

Faircloth has now matched 30 homes to displaced families.

Sanchez said the donation has opened her eyes to the kindness of others.

“People have the capacity to be amazing. I just never really knew it until now,” she said.
