FDNY firefighter suing over injures in fatal gas explosion

The civil suit says he fell when debris collapsed beneath him

NEW YORK — A firefighter is suing the city, a power company and a landlord of a building that was destroyed in a fatal gas leak explosion last March.

NY Post reported that FDNY firefighter Dale Scott, 44, says he was injured while responding to the East Harlem blast. The civil suit says he fell when debris collapsed beneath him.

His injuries are not detailed in the complaint and his attorney declined to comment, according to the report.

In order to win his case, firefighter Scott will have to show that one or more of the defendants violated federal, state or local laws.

At least seven other victims are suing over the explosion, which left eight people dead. Firefighter Scott and his wife are suing for unspecified damages, according to the report.

“We’ll respond to the filing in court once we receive it,” a Con Ed spokesman said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the explosion.
