STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A natural gas explosion has leveled a house and injured five workers trying to contain a gas main break in New Jersey.

Video shows smoke billowing from the explosion site and piles of debris in the road next to where the house once stood in Stafford Township.

Police advised residents earlier Tuesday that a gas main had broken in the area and evacuated 75 to 100 homes.

A spokesman for New Jersey Natural Gas says five workers were hospitalized after the explosion, but their conditions weren’t immediately known.

Michael Kinney told WPVI-TV that gas workers remain at the scene trying to make it safe.

Mayor John Spodofora told WCAU-TV that one of the injured is in extremely critical condition and was given CPR at the scene.
