ALBANY, Ore. — A four-alarm fire at South Albany High School that destroyed one building brought as many as 70 firefighters to battle the blaze in a defensive mode.
The “significant” fire was reported around 3:30 a.m., said Albany Fire Department spokesperson Wanda Omdahl. Fire was shooting through the roof of the cafeteria building when she arrived around 4:20 a.m., she said.
Fire was still easily visible at 6:30 a.m. Part of the roof collapsed around 5:30 a.m. and created a loud sound as it slid, Omdahl told KOIN 6 News.
