Video: Garbage truck explodes, damages homes

No one was injured when a garbage truck fueled by natural gas exploded like a missile

HAMILTON, N.J. — A garbage truck exploded after catching fire and ripped a hole in a nearby house Tuesday.

NJ.com reported that a total of four houses were damaged when one of the truck’s natural gas tanks exploded and rocketed into the air. The debris from the explosion shot into a second home, tearing a hole in the roof. Two other houses suffered broken windows and melted siding.

Hamilton Police Capt. James Stevens said the truck’s two operators reported smoke coming into the truck’s cab. They evacuated the vehicle and reported the fire. Both operators were unharmed.

The fire is under investigation.
