ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol has cited an Orange County deputy for a crash that injured five people.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported that 27-year-old Eric R. Wheeler was on regular patrol Wednesday evening when failed to stop at an intersection and drove into traffic. He was not responding to an emergency.

Fire rescue crews had to use a hydraulic cutting tool to remove Wheeler from his patrol car. He was treated at an Orlando hospital and later was released.

Wheeler was ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The driver of a minivan Wheeler hit was cited for driving without a license, failure to carry insurance and driving without headlights.
