SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — For the second time in three months, a runaway San Francisco Muni bus has coasted down a hill, slammed into a car and injured someone in Daly City.
The latest incident happened Sunday when a line 14 bus rolled down hilly San Jose Avenue toward Mission Street and plowed into a car about 6:20 p.m., according to the North County Fire Authority. The bus smashed into a car, trapping the female driver in the vehicle. Crews had to extricate the woman, who suffered minor injuries, and then took her to the hospital.
“She was lucky,” said North County Fire spokesman Matt Lucett.
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman Paul Rose said both the bus and the driver are out of service while the crash is investigated. He said it’s not clear whether the driver was behind the wheel at the time of the collision, but he added that the bus had been parked before the incident.
The earlier crash happened Jan. 20 and started when a driver left his bus parked and unattended near San Jose Avenue and Mission Street. The runaway bus crashed into five parked cars, injuring one of the vehicle’s drivers. It took hours to free the bus from the spot where it got stuck on a concrete divider after the crash.
