MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Colleagues are mourning the sudden death of a firefighter.

Charles “Rick” Gentilcore, 52, was found seated in a chair and unresponsive at Burtonsville Fire Station 15 Friday afternoon, WJLA reported. CPR was performed and he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His cause of death has not yet been determined.

“Nothing is suspicious,” Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services Chief Scott Goldstein said. “When the emergency is one of our own, it is something that is tough.”

Gentilcore was a volunteer firefighter for 11 years and a career firefighter for 12 years, according to the report.

“There were many, many calls and many, many lives that Rick impacted as a responder,” Chief Goldstein said.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 12 at Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Md. at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department. Gentilcore leaves behind a wife and a son.
