STANHOPE, N.J. — A firefighter died Monday evening while participating in a vehicular extraction drill.
NJ Herald reported that Stanhope Hose Company No.1 firefighter Edward Frenenski, 31, was practicing a simulation of extracting victims from a vehicle in full gear when he collapsed, according to Sussex County Fire Marshal Virgil Rome Jr.
Rome said Frenenski’s colleagues treated him before he was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
Frenenski was a member of the department for 12 years, and his father, Edward Frenenski, is a former chief and current active member, according to Rome.
County freeholder George Graham did not give further details on the incident, but said Frenenski was a “fine young man” and his death was “tragic.”
