FAIRPLAY, Colo. — Step by step for 3,600 miles with his homemade American flag cape flying in the breeze, Jeff Venable is on a cross-country run to raise money for firefighters.
The charity has three goals: giving safety equipment to volunteer firefighters, helping those who lost their spouses in the line-of-duty and burn victim research. “It’s a national charity, so to kick it off really big, we thought we would do a big national event, so running across country became the answer,” Venable said.
He took a break from pounding the pavement in Fairplay to get a few quick pictures and talk to people. After that, it’s back to the road and his run. So far, Jeff has been on the road for about 50 days, covering a little more than 1500 miles on his way from Oregon to New York City. "[My] big goal is to get to New York City for the 9/11 ceremonies,” Venable said.
