Md. firefighter posthumously promoted

Charles “Rick” Gentilcore, 52, was promoted to the rank of Master Firefighter at his funeral

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A firefighter was laid to rest Wednesday after being found unresponsive inside a station last week.

Fox5DC reported that over 1,500 police, fire and rescue personnel from around the D.C. region paid their respects to Charles “Rick” Gentilcore. Gentilcore, 52, died after being found unresponsive by colleagues while he was on duty at his fire station in Burtonsville. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Gentilcore was a firefighter for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue for 23 years; he also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years.

Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein posthumously promoted Gentilcore to the rank of Master Firefighter at his funeral.

He leaves behind a wife and son.
