BERRYHILL, Okla. — A community is mourning the death of a fire captain who died Tuesday.
KJRH reported that 25-year fire veteran Captain Joe Reynolds of the Berryhill Fire Protection District died. He was described someone who was always willing to help others.
“I miss him like crazy already,” Chief Michael Hall said. “It’s literally like missing a wheel on a truck; it looks fine until you to try to move it.”
Capt. Reynolds’ death was announced in a post on the fire department’s Facebook page, which said Reynolds “took every opportunity to teach our children and community about fire safety.”
His wife, Katrina, said he had a way of calming people in stressful times.
“They could be scared to death and he would walk in and it seemed like they immediately, calm,” she said.
Katrina added that the proudest moment of his career was being able to deliver children.
“He actually was able to do two in his lifetime, he delivered two, along with our two,” she said.
The legacy of Capt. Reynolds will live on at the fire department by renaming the junior fire program after him.
“It’s called a junior fire program but now it’s just going to be called JR, so Joe Reynolds program,” Chief Hall said.
