NEW YORK — Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire that killed one resident.
NY Post reported that a fire crew responded to the burning home of Rita Sklar, who had been battling brain cancer.
“We heard a woman screaming,” neighbor David Wong said. “And then the fire department came, and a few minutes later, I saw [the firefighters] doing chest compressions trying to save her, and then they took her away. And later afternoon, I heard that she passed away unfortunately.”
The two firefighters were transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and the fire is currently under investigation.
