TAIPEI, Taiwan — Five firefighters died Saturday and seven more were injured while battling a blaze in an electronics factory, according to officials.
NDTV reported that seven firefighters who were searching for victims inside the factory became trapped by fallen objects.
The firefighters were rescued, but only two of them survived. Two factory workers were also killed in the fire.
The fire department said seven other firefighters were injured, including five who suffered burns from an unknown liquid.
According to Taiwan News, Taoyuan Fire Department Chief Hu Ying-ta resigned as a result of the incident, which is the second greatest loss of life for firefighters in Taiwan in the past 11 years.
