SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Authorities found the body of a fire chief’s 20-year-old son after he was last seen Friday.
Divers found San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig’s son, Dawson, early Sunday in about 30 feet of water near a yacht club, reported the Press Enterprise.
“The Sheriff’s Dive Team sends our deepest condolences to the Hartwig family,” Bryan Lane, a county sheriff official, said via Twitter. “Fire and Sheriff are one big family and we all feel your loss.”
Hartwig was renting a cabin with his friends in the mountains; he was reported missing Saturday after he was last seen leaving for a walk Friday. He did not take a cell phone with him, and officials said he was not adequately dressed for the sub-zero overnight temperatures.
Over 70 fire, police and volunteers contributed to the search effort.
