TORONTO — A fire chief died last week after being struck by a vehicle at the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs conference.
The Star reported that Schreiber Fire Department Chief Pat Bourguignon, a 39-year fire veteran, was on his way back to his hotel after the conference when he was struck by a vehicle.
Police said Chief Bourguignon was transported to the hospital with a head and chest injury, where he later died, according to CTV News.
Officials said the area was experiencing a power outage at the time of the incident due to a windstorm.
“Pat was an amazing man and passionately dedicated to his family, his work as a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 34 years and Schreiber’s fire chief since 2009,” Mayor Mark Figliomeni wrote in a press release.
