FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. — Firefighters gathered at the the Greenpond (S.C.) Fire Department Sunday for a memorial service to remember a firefighter who died in an off-duty accident.
WSPA.com reported that 25-year-old Daniel Kruger was killed after he was struck in the head by a falling tree while trying to cut it down in his yard on March 9.
Fellow firefighters gathered to celebrate his life.
“Dan had a very very special smile. When he walked in, he lit up the room,” said Greenpond Fire Chief Joyce Wrenn. “He was a friend to all, he made friends with no problem when he first walked in this building.”
The fire department retired Kruger’s number 1773 and a plaque was created to honor his memory inside the firehouse.
