CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A fire department honored a slain cop by creating a shining “thin blue line” tribute for the community.

KDVR reported that the Castle Rock Fire Department changed the lights on Castle Rock’s iconic star to show a horizontal thin blue line in remembrance of Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Zackari Parrish, who was killed in an apartment complex ambush.

“We hope that this will give the community something [to] look to as they think of Zack and the sacrifices that your first responders make every single day,” the fire department said.

Fire Chief Art Morales said off-duty firefighters put the light up to make sure the community honored Parrish and remind them how he gave his life. It will remain blue until Jan. 21.
