MARION, Iowa — A firefighter died Monday after being hit by a truck in a drive-thru.
KWWL reported that 33-year Alburnett Fire Department veteran Curtis Schantz, 74, was under the hood of his truck that had broken down in a Dairy Queen drive-thru when another truck rolled forward and drove over him, according to police.
Schantz was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
“Alburnett Fire lost a good man, firefighter, mentor and friend today,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “Curtis Schantz served on the fire department for 33 years. His knowledge and experience will be greatly missed. Please pray for his family.”
