KANAWHA COUNTY, W. Va. — Two firefighters were killed and three were injured Saturday night when their fire truck crashed en route to a fatal vehicle crash scene.
Charleston Gazette-Mail reported that Pratt Volunteer Fire Department firefighters Michael Edwards and Tom Craigo died after their fire truck flipped, left the roadway and hit a rock wall, according to Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper.
Chief Timothy Walker and firefighters Billy Hypes and Kyle Jenkins were injured in the crash. Chief Walker is in critical condition, Hypes is stable at the hospital and Jenkins was released with minor injuries.
“This is a tragic event and believed to be the worst accident involving our volunteer fire service has ever suffered,” Carper said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved in these accidents this evening and their families.”
The crash is currently under investigation.
