LOLO, Mont. — A firefighter was killed after being struck by a tree Wednesday.
KTVQ reported that EMS responded to a call after Brent Witham, 29, was hit by a falling tree while battling a wildfire.
Crews attempted to get Witham to a landing zone so he could be transported by a helicopter, but he died from his injuries.
“Sheriff McDermott is sad to announce that a firefighter assigned to the Lolo Peak fire was killed Wednesday afternoon,” the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the coroner investigation. Further details will be available once the investigation is complete and family members of the victim’s family have been notified.”
