LYSANDER, N.Y. — A 22-year-old volunteer firefighter was killed early Sunday when his car went off Lamson Road in Lysander and struck a tree.
Joseph Donhauser, of Fulton, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. His Chevrolet Impala was found off the northbound shoulder of Lamson, near Smokey Hollow Road.
The cause of the one-car crash remains under investigation.
Donhauser was a volunteer Lysander firefighter, said Fire Chief Scott Kline. The young man had been with Lysander for about 8 months.
Kline described Donhauser as a “family man.” He is survived by a 9-month-old daughter, the chief said.
Donhauser previously volunteered with the Cody Fire Department, located south of Fulton in Oswego County. Kline said he believed Donhauser had volunteered with Cody since he became an adult.
