Officials: Missing Dallas firefighter may have died by suicide

Police believe retired firefighter Michael Chambers jumped into a lake after tracing his cellphone signal to a bridge

DALLAS — Police believe a retired firefighter who has been missing for over a year may have died by suicide.

NBC DFW reported that police traced retired firefighter Michael Chambers’ cellphone signal to a bridge on Lake Tawakoni, and Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks believes he jumped to his death.

“I really feel like he, he jumped in there himself and committed suicide,” Sheriff Meeks said.

Divers have already checked underneath the bridge twice, and may check a third time for Chambers’ remains.

However, Chambers’ daughter, Suzy Losoya, said she doesn’t believe the theory, which she said she first heard through media reports.

“I feel that he was harmed and I don’t think it was at his own hand,” Losoya said. “And believe me, I’ve played everything through my head, nothing has ever made me feel, or led me to believe it was suicide.”

Police have not officially closed the investigation, but believe the evidence points to suicide. Losoya has hired a private investigator who has been working on the case since October.
