SOMERVILLE, N.J. — Authorities, seeking information in the hit-and-run death of retired Somerville firefighter George Kavanaugh, have increased a reward to $10,000 for anyone willing to come forward with a credible lead in the case.
The reward, initially set at $2,500 by the Crime Stoppers of Somerset, was raised to $5,000 in mid-March by Crime Stoppers and on Monday afternoon it was increased to $10,000. The additional $5,000 was put up by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano and Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano announced on Monday in a joint statement.
Kavanaugh, 75, was fatally struck on March 6 in front of Somerville Fire Department Lincoln Hose Company No. 4’s firehouse located at 34 Warren Street.
