City wants female firefighter harassment suit dismissed

The lawsuit alleges equipment tampering, clothing destruction, gender-related slurs and denial of promotions

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A lawyer is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a female firefighter claiming she was a longtime victim of sexual harassment.

The Associated Press reported that firefighter Amie Morningstar, with the Circleville (Ohio) Fire Department, alleged she was subjected to equipment tampering, clothing destruction and gender-related slurs. She said she was also required to meet tougher training and work standards than her male counterparts.

Her attorney said she was fired Feb. 5 after not reporting to work after using up all her personal leave, according to the report.

The lawsuit seeks an immediate end to the alleged harassment and damages exceeding $75,000.

An attorney representing the city and fire department filed a motion last week denying the allegations.
