Wash. FD holds push-in ceremony for new fire engine

LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Longview Fire Department will hold a traditional push-in ceremony for its newest fire engine with the Longview City Council at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fire Station 82.

The department has had the roughly $740,000 truck for about a month, said city spokesperson Angela Abel. She said it came stripped down and city crews have built it out based on the department’s needs.

Push-in ceremonies date back to the time of horse-drawn fire apparatus, which had to be manually pushed back into the station after returning from a call, according to a city press release. The event will include a brief history of the tradition and remarks from the fire department and city officials.

Community members will be able to participate in pushing the new engine into the station.
