CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — About 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, six Chattanooga fire companies arrived at the Cherryton Apartments at 3700 Cherryton Drive to find flames “shooting out the windows of a first-floor apartment,” according to a department release.

Firefighters searched the building after being told three children might be inside, but found no one.

The fire destroyed the building. Ten families were left homeless following the incident.

The blaze was controlled within an hour and no major injuries were reported, officials said.
