HOUSTON — A 10-year-old boy is being called a hero for helping his father and siblings escape their burning home in southwest Houston.
A family is lucky to be alive after an early morning fire ripped through their detached garage and they are crediting their safety to their son. “He is an angel,” said his father, Donatus Okafor. “Thank God for him, thank God. He is an angel.” At around 3 a.m. Thursday, 10-year-old KC woke up to the smell of smoke.
“There was this beeping noise that just woke me up, I started to smell smoke,” KC said. He said he didn’t know what was happening, but he knew something was wrong. “I just ran to my Dad’s bed, and kept saying, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’ to wake up and then he woke up and woke up my sisters,” said KC.
