SCRANTON, Pa. — A morning fire on Pine Street in Scranton left almost 90 people out of their homes.

Officials say the fire started on the 8th floor of the United House Apartments, an apartment complex for the elderly and people with special needs, around 8:30 a.m. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

The people were evacuated from the apartments into a nearby church because of the cold.

The residents can’t go back into the building because the sprinklers were set off and caused water damage to the building.

Multiple roads in Scranton were shut down this morning so crews could work on the fire, victims are being helped by the Red Cross.

Emergency workers say some firefighters had to be treated for minor injuries.
