SAN JOSE, Calif. — Firefighters needed about 90 minutes this morning to contain a two-alarm blaze that swept through a two-story home in San Jose’s Berryessa neighborhood this morning.
At 2:22 a.m., San Jose firefighters received a call about a fire in the garage of a home in the 2000 block of Charger Drive, located near Berryessa Road and Interstate 680, according to fire Capt. Robert Culbertson. Firefighters arrived at the home in seven minutes and found fire in the garage and attic, Culbertson said.
A male firefighter was injured in the blaze when a section of ceiling collapsed, Culbertson said. The injured firefighter was taken to a hospital and was treated and released for minor injuries.
Five people, including one child, were displaced by the fire, Culbertson said. The family is staying with a neighbor.
Although the frame is still standing, the house suffered significant damage.
Fire officials believe the fire started in the garage, but the exact cause remains under investigation, Culbertson said.
