RENICK, W.Va. — Shane Blankenship is a firefighter in Renick, putting out fires is his life, but he never expected his own home would fall victim.

“Well it was a little weird knowing that they were coming for you to help you,” Blankenship said. He said him and his parents were decorating their home for Christmas. That’s when they heard the smoke alarm go off in the back of the house.

“My mom’s closet had caught on fire and me and my brother and my mom and dad had gotten out and called 911,” Blankenship said. Firefighters from Renick rushed as quick as they could to the home.
