PITTSBURGH — Authorities say four children and two adults killed in a western Pennsylvania house fire died of acute smoke and fume inhalation.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office released autopsy results Sunday. The cause of the blaze in McKeesport remains under investigation.

Family members identified the victims as 27-year-old Hope Jordan and her four children, ages 2 to 7. They say the fire also killed Jordan’s disabled father-in-law, Ronald Egenlauf Sr.

Hours after the blaze erupted Saturday morning, relatives at the scene said Jordan’s husband, Keith Egenlauf, escaped the fire with major burns. He’s hospitalized.

Family members say the couple initially managed to flee the flames, but returned in an effort to save the others.
