Father, 2 daughters killed in house fire

Firefighters and medics were able to revive another child, but she remains in critical condition

GLENARDEN, Md. — A father and two of his children were killed early Thursday morning when a fire broke out in their home.

Prince George’s County Fire officials said that six people were in the home when the blaze started, including a mother and father and their four daughters.

The father and two of his daughters, ages 8 and 4 were killed.

“We have found no indication of a smoke detector in the home. That fact is very sad for me and frustrating,” Fire Chief Marc Bashoor told WJLA.

When crews arrived on the scene, they removed the father and three of the children, ages 3, 8, and 11 from the home. All four of them were not breathing when they were removed from the building. Medics on the scene, however, were able to revive the 11-year-old girl.

The mother was able to escape with another 8-year-old daughter and are expected to survive. The 11-year-old daughter remains in critical condition.

Fire officials at this point do not suspect any foul play. They believe the cause is likely linked to an electrical failure.
