Fire captain, 2 firefighters hurt in 3-alarm blaze

NEWARK, N.J. — A fire captain and two firefighters were hurt while battling a 3-alarm blaze.

News12 reported that at least 70 firefighters responded to a fire that broke out in an unoccupied residential building and spread to an occupied three-family home, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

Police said the captain was injured by falling debris inside one of the buildings and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated by EMS on scene.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
