SEOUL, South Korea — A firefighter put his life and wedding date on the line when he helped save five people from a burning building.
Firefighter Choi Kil-soo shielded residents from the flames as they jumped from the third floor of a burning building over the weekend. After victims jumped, Choi broke his hip as he jumped out himself.
“All I could think of was rescuing the residents. I was holding onto a handrail, but my gloves were already on fire,” Choi said.
Choi, who joined the fire service two months ago, was scheduled to walk down the aisle in three weeks, reported CNN.
“My mission is to save people,” Choi said. “I acted out of instinct rather than out of knowledge, because I had to carry out my mission.”
