ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A former N.C. volunteer firefighter was killed in a house fire Friday morning.
Former Aquadale Fire Department Firefighter Donnie Smith, 61, was found burned alive in his home after firefighters responded, according to WBTV.
Firefighters showed up to Smith’s home just five minutes after receiving the call, but his home was already full involved.
Smith was a volunteer until his health started deteriorating.
He lived alone, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
