HAMILTON, Ohio — A firefighter died while battling a house fire Monday morning.
Cincinnati.com reported that multiple fire departments responded to a house fire around 1 a.m. Firefighter Patrick Wolterman, 28, was operating at the house fire when there was a collapse. He fell through several floors and into the basement.
Firefighter Wolterman sent a mayday call when he fell into the basement and was rushed to a hospital where he later died.
“This is a very tragic situation and everyone should keep the family of the firefighter and the firefighter in their prayers and their hearts,” Fire Chief Steve Dawson said.
No one was home when the fire broke out and no one else was injured.
Fire officials say Wolterman was hired in April after other firefighting experience and had gotten married this summer. He had seven years of firefighting experience according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
