STAUNTON, Ill. — Around 100 firefighters worked to extinguish a fire at a classic car lot that destroyed 150 historic vehicles.
Fox News reported that firefighters from 13 different departments worked to save the business, but five buildings at Country Classic Cars were a total loss.
“They don’t make them like this anymore,” Country Classic Cars owner Russ Noel said. “A lot of those cars in there, I’ll never replace them probably.”
The blaze could be seen from miles away. Witnesses said roads had to be closed down due to thick smoke.
About 600 cars dating from the 1920s to the 1980s were kept at the business.
“I can’t put it into words the automotive history here that’s gone,” Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl said.
