GAINESVILLE, Mo. — A fire destroyed a volunteer fire station Tuesday morning.

KSPR.com reported that deputies across the street from the Gainesville Volunteer Fire station noticed smoke coming from the building. Four volunteer crews were dispatched to the station; it took two hours to extinguish the blaze. No one was injured.

Chief Ed Doiren said all three of the station’s fire vehicles were destroyed. He said the fire may have started on one of the vehicles.

The department was recovering from severe flooding last month.

“It’s just really overwhelming to not be done cleaning up from the first disaster and everything that was left is gone,” Doiren said. “So it really hasn’t sunk in from the first one yet and now we have this.”

The fire also destroyed all the equipment inside the station. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
