RENO, Nev. — Officials say that a truck towing trailer caused a northwest Nevada fire that was 100 percent contained Saturday.
Bureau of Land Management ranger and fire investigator Scott Fischer says a firefighter saw a truck traveling on a highway with sparks shooting from the back of the vehicle on Friday, before the Cold Springs fire started. He says the sparks led to at least seven fires over about a half-mile (0.8 kilometers).
The fire burned over 2 square miles (5 sq. kilometers).
Officials have not identified the driver or the vehicle.
Officials are looking for the witnesses who tried to alert the driver of the sparks.
