OAKLAND, Calif. — Two months after the deadly Ghost Ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people, Oakland Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed has gone on leave.
Chief Reed faced harsh criticism following the Ghost Ship fire. She was questioned over why the department did not inspect the building, despite numerous complaints. Deputy Chief Darin White has been appointed acting fire chief.
“We haven’t seen her since about Jan. 18. We have no idea where she is at present and what is going on with the department’s leadership,” Zachary Unger, vice president of Oakland’s firefighter union, told the Los Angeles Times.
