HOLTON, Kan. — The Joplin Blasters’ woes continued Thursday night, but their efforts early Friday morning on their trek to Wichita, Kansas, brought a new perspective on things.
The Blasters’ official Twitter account tweeted at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning an apparent video of players assisting in unraveling a fire truck water hose while a fierce house fire took place.
The tweet read: “Blasters players assist a lone fireman until the rest of the police and firefighters are able to show up.” A video followed, showing a fire burn through a house.

Joplin CEO and manager Gabe Suarez returned a text message to the Globe, confirming the Blasters’ assist and adding that no one was hurt.

“It was en route from Sioux City to Wichita,” Suarez said, adding that the fire occurred in Holton, Kansas. “We stopped for a bathroom break and some food and a fire broke out in a house across the street. The players were curious and ran over to see. Only one fireman was there at the time so they helped get the hose unraveled and hooked up to the hydrant. Shortly after, the rest of the police and firemen came and it looked like it was under control.”
Suarez added: “Gives you a new appreciation for firefighters and police officers. Those are scary situations and they do a great job. They got there quickly before the fire could spread.”
It is not known at this time if anyone was harmed from the inside of the house due to the fire.
The Blasters will arrive in Wichita, Kansas, Friday morning for a three-game series with the Wingnuts. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
