LEWIS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A stranger gave a firefighter and his family who lost their home in a fire a holiday miracle by giving them a place to live.

FOX6 reported that Williamsport Bureau of Fire firefighter JJ Lyons was on a hunting trip when he found out a basement fire in his house caused nearly $400,000 in damage, leaving him, his wife and their 5-year-old daughter without a home.

“We had no idea what we were going to do or where we were going to go. We didn’t know we would be OK,” Lyons said.

Joe Miller, who is a complete stranger to the Lyons family, was currently looking to sell his late mother’s home, but decided to let the Lyons family live there until they can get back on their feet.

“I told JJ that we can’t bring his house back. We can’t bring his dog or his cat back — but we could help him this way and it means a lot for us to do that,” Miller said.

Fire department colleagues helped Lyons renovate the house.

“This is a brotherhood. This is what we do. Guy gets down, everyone comes together. It’s just an unwritten rule of the fire service,” firefighter Joel Shirn said.

“It’s extremely awesome. It’s definitely a huge blessing that Mr. Miller reached out to us and offered up his mother’s house,” Lyons said.
