MOSCOW, Idaho — The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department responded to a large apartment complex fire around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Campus View Suites in the 1400 block of A Street.

The three-story building contained 12 apartments, six of which, on the east side of the breezeway, were more than 50 percent destroyed, according to city of Moscow Fire Marshall Joe Williams. He said about 25 percent of the apartments on the west side of the building sustained smoke damage.

When he arrived at the scene, flames were coming out of an apartment on the northeast side of the complex. Williams said nearly 25 firefighters, two fire engines and a ladder truck were able to knock out the fire in around 40 minutes.

As of 6:30 p.m., Williams said there were no injuries and he did not have a known cause for the fire. He believed all the apartments were currently occupied and many tenants were in the process of moving out. A secondary search by the fire department was underway to account for every occupant.

All 12 apartments were evacuated as well as both complexes on the east and west sides of the building. On the primary search, firefighters were able to rescue a dog from a third-floor apartment on the southwest corner and two guitars from the first-floor northeast corner apartment.

Williams said there was no damage to the neighboring buildings. He said the apartments on the east of the breezeway would have to be rebuilt and was unsure of the status of the apartments on the west side.
