CHANHASSEN, Minn. — A fire chief is fighting back after city officials told him to resign or face termination after an investigation into an alleged wrongdoing.

KSTP reported that the investigation into Assistant Chief Cori Wallis, with the Chanhassen (Minn.) Fire Department, centered on a questionable water bill at his home. The city accused him of reversing the water flow on his water meter.

The city said the water flow reversal was during a two-month period in the summer and reduced Chief Wallis’ bill by $120.

The sheriff’s office issued a misdemeanor criminal citation in the investigation, which was dropped last week.

Wallis said he resigned from the department so he could find another job, but says he is innocent.

“I didn’t do this. I wouldn’t risk 21 years of service, as a city employee, as a firefighter and as an assistant fire chief,” Wallis said. “I didn’t do this. I didn’t do it.”
