QUINCY, Mass. — Metropolitan Fire Chiefs from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. participated in the NFPA Urban Fire Forum, where they adopted several positions on after action reports, operations performance measures and more.

According to an NFPA press release, the event, which brings together fire chiefs who head the departments of some of the largest urban areas in the world, kicked off with CEO Jim Pauley giving the chiefs an overview of the Fire and Life Safety Ecosystem.

The goal of the event was to give chiefs an opportunity to learn from each other and for NFPA officials to check the pulse of current trends and fire service needs.

The fire chiefs – Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs President Chief Ken Block, National Fire Chiefs Council of the United Kingdom Chairman CFO Roy Wilsher, IAFC CEO Chief Mark Light, United Kingdom Crown Premises Fire Safety Chief Inspector CFO Peter Holland and USFA Administrator Chief Keith Bryant – adopted five documents as official UFF-Metro Chiefs position papers:

“Fire chiefs must think differently today, as the first responder landscape has dramatically changed over the past decade,” NFPA Metro Chiefs Executive Secretary Russ Sanders, who coordinated the event, said. “Today it is more important than ever for chiefs to understand and embrace the latest research, and have access to quality and timely data. The position papers endorsed by the Forum provide the information and resources needed to effectively address the challenges facing today’s fire service.”
