Former NY fire chief faces prison term for sex with teenager

He faces two years in prison for sexual relations with a girl who was 15 and 16 years old

EVANS MILLS, N.Y. — A former Evans Mills fire chief faces two years in state prison after admitting Friday in Jefferson County Court that he had a sexual relationship with a teenager.

Shawn R. Rutmanis, 43, of 714 Stonewood Drive, Apt. B, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual act. He admitted that between February and July 2008 he engaged in sexual conduct with a girl under the age of 17. Police said at the time of his arrest that the incidents occurred when the girl 15 and 16 years old.

In addition to a prison term, he is expected to be ordered at sentencing April 1 to undergo an additional five years of supervision and register with the state as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
